When Robert first became ill...

Robert slipped on some ice in his car park to the flats and pulled his neck muscles, he complained of his neck for a couple of weeks when I said he should go to the Dr's to get him to check it out. The GP decided to send him to a physiotherapist to see if it helped but instead of waiting he decided to go private and saw a brilliant physiotherapist who looks after the sport students at the Loughborough university, she was excellent and Robert got on well with her. Ian & myself would take him and then take him back home after the treatment because he couldn't turn his head enough to be safe driving. When he wasn't getting any better the GP sent him for an MRI scan to see what the problem was, but this didn't appear!!! Robert was taken into hospital due to him being unwell and they was going to send him for an MRI but we said he had had one so they got that one and it showed up that poor Robert had cancer. That was the start of his treatment. He went through extra radiotherapy to try to remove or shrink the cancer as much as could possibly be, whhich worked to a greater extent. It was then that the decision to have Chemotherapy was made, his consultant decided to give him a very mild dose just before Christmas 2009 hopefully to help him enjoy his Christmas with his family, which he did. But due to his immune system being so low he must have caught an infection and that was the beginning of the end, he was taken back into hospital were he eventually died. The hospiatl staff at Osbourne House Leicester Royal Infirmary was brilliant, they were very kind to us as a family and helped us through this traumatic time with patience and professionalism of which I thank them from the bottom of my heart. Robert died with some of his family around him, his last words to me were "LOVE YOU" which will stay with me forever. He passed so peacefully and with such gentleness of which we were all so grateful for... Love you Robert ~ Anne xx
